Make the Most of Spring

As I'm writing this, it's officially the first day of Spring and it hasn't disappointed. The sun is shining, flowers are coming into bloom and the days are getting longer.

It's a favourite season for many. The weather is warming up but it's not boiling and usually this is when the social calendar starts to fill up again.

This year is a little bit different. With the world still struggling COVID-19 pandemic, it's not likely to be a socially-filled spring or summer. Even though there may be less on your calendar, there are still some great ways to make the most of Spring. 

Here are my top picks!

Bring your exercise outside

Most people keep their exercise routine inside over winter. Whether that be by choice or because of conditions out of our control (rain,wind, hail even!). It's time to take it outside. Move out of your usual spot in the living room and set yourself up in a good outdoor spot. 

Keep in mind the time of day you will be exercising. It's not ideal having the sun shining in your eyes in the afternoon when you are mid burpee!

Exercising outside means fresh air and a change of scenery that can reboot our motivation to exercise and keep active. 

Spring clean the house

Yep its cliché...but It's a great time to be cleaning up from Winter's mess. Big Winter coats and woollies can be put away soon. If you have a fireplace it's time to give those a clean too. 

Make use of those longer evenings

In Winter you may leave home in the dark and get home when it's pitch black. More sunlight means you have more time in the evening to get things ticked off. If you have the time, try going for an after work walk to relax and unwind. It's a good way to get in some steps if you do spend the majority of the day seated at a desk. 

Plant a veggie garden

Get your veggie garden ready for some of the best food of the year! There is so much produce that thrives over Spring and Summer. Zucchinis, capsicums, strawberries, tomatoes, eggplants, cucumbers, pumpkins, sweet corn, green beans,, asparagus...the list continues. 

Even if you don't have a lot of space, you can make use of pots, hanging baskets and strategically stacking these to make the most of what you have. 

Get experimental with your cooking

With lots of amazing fresh fruit and veggies in season, mix up your cooking style and routine too. If it's warm enough and you can, make use of that barbeque. Grilling veggies and some meat makes for a very quick and healthy meal. And it means minimal cleaning up after too!
